A Flava of the Month special at subterania in West London, with Common and Monie Love, kicking a freestyle towards the end of the night.
This is a classic from the archive, at the end of DJ 279s Flava of the Month, TY and Kosher (Bloodhounds/Baskerville) jump on stage for a completely unrehearsed freestyle. Youngbloods take note, this was an awesome 5 minutes.
Slum village performs at Scala in London on June 1st, 2000. It was the 4th Birthday of ‘Scratch’, which had become quite the Thursday night event. Jay Dee wasn’t there that night, but it was really cool, and really loud. ‘Raise it up’ had just come out and these dudes really killed it.
So I’ve been thinking of putting some of this stuff out there for for while. I’ve got a huge archive of footage from gigs I filmed in a round London’s hiphop scene from about 1996. As I recall not too many people were filming back then (compared to now). I figured with the wonders of modern technology I’d share some of it.
This recording came about courtesy of DJ Big Ted, who would occasionally allow me into the studio at Choice in Brixton. It was a pretty cool evening, and happened a week before the infamous Busta Rhymes gig at the forum (he didn’t show, there was a riot at the venue). All the emceess represent in the session, but I think Cel One of the Gutter Snypes, killed it for me.
