Q-Tip at the HMV Forum

After a sell-out show at the Roundhouse last year, Q-Tip is back to play the HMV Forum on the 25th August. Being that my that there is still a fallout over the ATCQ Movie, this show will be the next best thing.

This poster is bound to be a collectors item for any Tribe fans. Actor Michael Rappaport’s eagerly anticipated doc on a Tribe Called Quest is released on July 8th in the U.S. After their 1998 break-up, the film follows the group on a series of sold-out concerts after they reunited briefly in 2008. With rarely heard stories from Red Alert, the Native Tongues members like Monie Love, Busta Rhymes and Questlove of the roots, the film chronicles songs like ‘Scenario’ and ‘Check the Rhime’. In addition to looking at the bands past present and future, the movie talks to Mos Def, Large Proffessor, The Beastie Boys, De La Soul, Pete Rock and many many more.

Omar’s Comin!

Here is a trailer for first look at filmmaker Michael “Boogie” Pinckney’s feature film debut, executive-produced by Spike Lee by the way, titled You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills You, starring Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), and many others.

The films is “Set in the perilous world of the Hip Hop industry. Music and murder and collide as a serial killer with an appetite for some of Hip Hops biggest stars is on the loose.”

Looks like it will be an interesting watch. An official trailer has made it’s way onto vimeo too.

Kisrty Young’s castaway this week on Radio 4 was Actor and Playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah. From performing in the BBC’s Casualty to writing for the National Theatre. Kwame has been a positive creative force for inspiring young people in the arts. if you missed his selection tracks, check them here

Beyonce’s Flashdance

This video of Beyonce surprising the students at Harlem’s PS 161 is so great. Something about it makes me think she’s really going to be a champion and role model for young women, in another video she’s even got the first lady Michelle Obama involved. Just great!
